Role Overview****

We’re looking for a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to join our core product engineering team. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, can navigate complex systems, and wants to help shape the foundation of a rapidly scaling fintech product.
You’ll work directly with the CTO and a small team of senior engineers to build and scale the systems that power both our consumer credit product and our B2B credit-building platform.
You’ll have broad ownership – from designing APIs and backend services to shaping the product architecture and contributing to frontend web components used across partner integrations.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Architecture

• Design and build features across the stack (Rails, React, Lit web components).
• Collaborate closely with design, product, and business teams to deliver high-quality user experiences.
• Contribute to architecture decisions across our credit platform, from core APIs to frontend component libraries.
• Build systems that balance developer velocity, maintainability, and scalability.

Technical Leadership

• Identify technical debt, propose solutions, and improve development workflows.
• Drive best practices for testing, CI/CD, security, and performance.
• Review and mentor engineers—contractors or full-time—across backend and frontend domains.
• Lead by example through hands-on contributions and thoughtful communication.

Problem Solving & Ownership

• Quickly understand ambiguous product challenges and propose pragmatic solutions.
• Debug complex systems across multiple services and environments.
• Take full ownership of problems — from discovery through implementation and monitoring.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Must-Have

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience (8+ for Staff level).
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript (React, Lit, or similar).
• Experience designing and scaling APIs and data models for production systems.
• Proven ability to work independently and self-direct in ambiguous startup environments.
• A product-driven mindset — you care about impact, not just implementation.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating with non-engineers.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Experience in fintech, card issuing, or consumer financial products.
• Familiarity with web components, TypeScript, and API-first architectures.
• Experience with AWS, ECS, and observability platforms (NewRelic / Datadog).
• Security-conscious mindset and familiarity with modern authentication patterns (JWT, OAuth, etc).

Success Metrics (First 12 Months)

• Contribute major features to both consumer and B2B product lines.
• Lead one or more core architectural or infrastructure initiatives.
• Improve system reliability, performance, and developer experience.
• Mentor junior or contractor engineers to raise overall team velocity.
• Help define and document key parts of StellarFi’s engineering standards and architecture.
