Responsibilities

Sales & Use Tax Responsibilities

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual sales/use tax compliance; reconcile source systems, ERP, Vertex, and G/L against draft returns prior to filing.

Validate total, taxable, and exempt sales, deductions, and tax collected/due; ensure transactions are properly sourced and taxed per applicable state and local rules.

Coordinate with the outsourced compliance provider for accurate, timely return preparation, and review completed returns for accuracy before filing.

Maintain reconciliation procedures and control activities using Vertex and Alteryx reporting to validate data completeness; investigate exceptions and remediate root causes with accounting and finance partners.

Maintain compliance documentation, dashboards, and KPIs; perform YoY/period trend and variance analysis on taxable/exempt sales, deductions, and effective rates.

Support Vertex/Alteryx implementation, UAT, and automation; partner with internal audit and SOX teams; support taxability review for new products and audit requests.

Fixed Asset Responsibilities

Maintain the fixed asset subledger in SAGE FAS (additions, disposals, transfers, adjustments) monthly and reconcile it to the general ledger, researching and resolving variances.

Convert book fixed asset activity into tax depreciation schedules (MACRS, bonus depreciation, Section 179); prepare book-to-tax reconciliations, roll-forwards, and tax basis schedules for return preparation and audit support.

Stay informed of business-unit capital spending, project timelines, and in-service dates; partner with FP&A, procurement, and operations to confirm proper book/tax classification (asset class, useful life, qualified vs. non-qualified).

Proactively identify expenditures qualifying for accelerated depreciation, cost segregation, or other tax planning opportunities.

Build and maintain Excel/VBA tools and use Claude Cowork to automate calculations, reconciliations, and reporting; maintain process documentation supporting internal controls (SOX).


Qualifications

Chartered Accountant, Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field

3-6 years in US sales tax preparation and fixed asset tax depreciation compliance in a multi-entity or multi-state tax environment.

Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday), SAGE FAS or comparable fixed asset software, Vertex and Alteryx.

Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH), and macros/VBA for process automation.

Working knowledge of federal tax depreciation rules (MACRS, bonus depreciation, Section 179, like-kind exchange/1031 basics).

Experience with or willingness to learn AI-assisted productivity tools such as Claude Cowork to support reporting and analysis.

Strong critical thinking, analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills; excellent attention to detail; strong business acumen; and effective written/verbal communication that translates technical concepts for non-finance stakeholders
