Manager 3, Software Engineering (Tax Product End to End)
Company Overview
Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With approximately 100 million customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible.
Job Overview
The Tax Topics team within TurboTax Consumer Group is at the heart of helping millions of Americans file their taxes with confidence every year. We own the end-to-end technology powering tax topic experiences across TurboTax Online (TTO), TurboTax Mobile (TTM) and TurboTax Desktop spanning all of Federal and State taxes. Our platform is built on a Dynamic Experience (DynEx) architecture that decouples the experience layer from tax logic, enabling rapid iteration and high-quality delivery at scale.
We are seeking a Manager 3 of Software Engineering to lead the technological evolution of Tax Topics. You will own the engineering roadmap, technical strategy, and team health for an org of talented engineers building experiences that directly impact taxpayer outcomes. You will partner closely with Product Management, Design, Tax content, and Compliance stakeholders to deliver accurate, delightful, and AI-powered tax topic experiences. This is a high-visibility role at the intersection of tax domain complexity, platform engineering, and consumer-scale product delivery.
Responsibilities
Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team building tax topic experiences across TurboTax Online and Mobile platforms.
Own the functional and non-functional requirements roadmap for Tax Topics, balancing taxpayer needs, IRS compliance requirements, and platform health.
Spearhead the adoption of AI powered development workflows to achieve exponential gains in engineering throughput and operational velocity.
Partner with Tax Content and Compliance teams to ensure topic logic accurately reflects current tax law (IRS forms, schedules, and regulations) for the active tax year.
Establish and enforce engineering excellence - code quality, test automation, CI/CD, and observability - across the team's services and topic experiences.
Provide technical leadership, career development, and performance management for all direct reports; build a results-oriented, inclusive engineering organization.
Drive instrumentation and data-informed decision making.
Lead initiatives to reduce topic debt, improve automation coverage, and ensure robustness through peak tax filing seasons.
Qualifications
15+ years of industry software engineering experience, with a minimum of 5+ years leading engineering teams in a management capacity.
Strong hands-on engineering background with a career history of individual technical contribution prior to management - able to engage deeply in architecture reviews, code quality discussions, and technical trade-off decisions.
Experience building and shipping consumer-scale web and mobile products - ideally in a SaaS or fintech environment with strict compliance or regulatory constraints.
Solid understanding of modern frontend and full-stack development - React, TypeScript, Node.js, REST/GraphQL APIs, and cloud-native deployments (AWS preferred)
Deep belief in agile and lean engineering - passion for velocity, operational excellence, and continuous delivery.
Experience with observability and data-driven engineering - defining and owning SLAs, error budgets, funnel analytics.
Solid software development fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, system design, microservices, and end-to-end software delivery with a DevOps mindset.
Expert communicator - comfortable partnering with Product, Design, Tax Compliance, and senior leadership stakeholders; able to translate complex technical concepts for non-engineering audiences.
Strong business acumen - understands the seasonal, high-stakes nature of tax filing and makes strategic decisions that balance speed-to-market with taxpayer trust and accuracy.
Proven track record of building and retaining diverse, high-performing engineering teams; ability to coach senior engineers and develop future leaders.
What makes this role unique:
High impact, high stakes: Your team's work directly affects millions of taxpayers every filing season — accuracy and reliability are non-negotiable.
Domain depth: Tax topics sit at the intersection of consumer UX and complex IRS regulations — engineers on this team become rare experts in both.
Fast release cadence: Topic releases are independent of platform releases, enabling your team to ship any day — with the tooling and autonomy to match.
AI-powered future: Active investment in AI and Human Intelligence (HI) integration into topic experiences — this team is central to Intuit's AI-driven expert platform strategy.
