Job Overview
As a Database Reliability Engineer, you will be instrumental in improving the reliability, performance and scale of Credit Karma’s database infrastructure. We have a distributed architecture utilizing MySQL & GCP for the delivery of our products. You’ll be working to improve and modernize these key systems, developing automation & tooling and taking our infrastructure to the next level.
What the Job Entails:
- MySQL database administration, management and engineering using industry and community standards/tools.
- Enhance developer velocity by leading the design and development of automation and self-service tooling.
- Preventing data loss using replication technologies and backups.
- Improving and developing our toolset for MySQL management systems.
- Implementing and improving our distributed database architecture in both Postgres and MySQL.
- Improving recovery time through automation and processes.
- Improving deployment processes through automation.
- Part of the on-call team and rotation, helping resolve critical issues as quickly as possible. Maintaining an automation centric vision and incorporating SRE methodologies in an effort to increase reliability and decreasing toil.
- Provide support and knowhow to developers for GCP persistence tools, primarily Spanner
- Working with the team on all the above listed points and delegate appropriately

Qualifications
Our Ideal Candidate:
- You have Experience with database administration, primarily using MySQL. Other RDB’s and Key value stores experience is also valued. Solid understanding of database system internals, and their impact on query and system performance.
- You have Experience working in production environments at scale, and want to improve our availability and performance.
- Writing scripts should come as second nature to you, and you should have experience with Python, Bash, Ruby, or Perl (we gravitate towards Python).
- We live in a dynamic world and systems often need change. You should have experience with a configuration management system like Puppet, Chef or Salt (we use Salt).
- You are proficient in communicating technical details using English, both verbally and written.
- This position is part of a well established team, and you should be excited about working closely with everyone, as well as engineering stakeholders and developers. You are a team player and thrive in a tightly knitted team where everyone shares a common goal.
- Our infrastructure is based in the cloud and working in the cloud is slightly different. An ideal candidate would have experience with GCP and/or AWS.
- You possess an unwavering desire to learn. Our environment often has new challenges and we pioneer new technologies. You will explore and at times lead efforts researching, promoting and implementing these.

Pay offered is based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and work location. To drive ongoing fair pay for employees, Intuit conducts regular comparisons across categories of ethnicity and gender.
Bay Area base pay range for this position is: $197,000 - 260,000.
