Staff Design Researcher

Category Design & User Experience Location Mountain View, California Job ID 20134

Company Overview

Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With approximately 100 million customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible.

Job Overview

The Tech Business Disruption team explores bold new frontiers in technology and business models to uncover growth opportunities that shape Intuit’s future. We incubate breakthrough product concepts, experiment with emerging technologies, and identify disruptive trends that redefine how we deliver value to our customers and accelerate innovation across the company.

We’re looking for a Staff Design Researcher who’s passionate about uncovering transformative insights that drive new business opportunities. You’ll leverage qualitative and quantitative research methods to illuminate unmet needs, emerging behaviors, and market shifts—helping teams imagine and validate disruptive concepts that challenge the status quo. This role calls for a curious, strategic thinker who thrives in ambiguity, can connect patterns across industries, and inspires cross-functional teams to turn insights into innovation.

Responsibilities

Accelerate game-changing design by leading strategic, mixed-methods research (quantitative and qualitative) that provides actionable insights around emerging technologies and disruptive opportunities. Help cross-functional teams apply those insights to create delightful, innovative offerings.

Scale community knowledge around research methods for today and the future (e.g. mobile, future generations of users).

Adept in recruiting participants from diverse populations using a variety of approaches

Plan and execute original multi-method research studies on strategic initiatives—from identifying topics to distilling findings that inform early-stage business disruption ideas and guide product direction.

Lead user-research activities such as needs assessment, new product brainstorms, early concept exploration, requirements gathering, post-product release analysis, and long-term strategic research planning.

Work seamlessly as a key team member on cross-functional product teams, from designers and writers to product managers and engineers.

Actively participate in and foster the broader research and design community.

Through close collaboration with both internal and external customers, help us to identify the biggest opportunities and then guide teams to conceive of and shape products and services that delight.

Inform and inspire teams, by virtue of their research expertise and by involving customers throughout the design process, to help make the overall user experience as easy, intuitive and pleasant as possible.

The ideal candidate will exhibit deep customer empathy, be well versed in a number of research methodologies (virtual and in-person interviews, usability testing, surveying, etc.), and be capable of creating long-term, mixed-method research plans that involve cross-functional teams in gathering customer feedback and making data-informed design recommendations that meet Intuit's high ease-of-use standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Social Psychology or an equivalent field in the behavioral sciences, Master’s degree preferred

At least five years of industry experience as a hands-on mixed-methods researcher, working across multiple platforms.

Expertise in a broad range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including ethnographic research, site visits, interviews, diary studies, usability testing, surveys, data analysis, and the creation of long-term research plans.

Proven ability to synthesize insights from both qualitative and quantitative data to inform business disruption strategies and guide product innovation.

Superior creativity and passion for what you do.

Organized, self-directed, efficient and able to manage complex projects in a timely manner

Strong leadership qualities that enable you to lead cross-functional teams and third party partners when needed

Able to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information and present the results to the stakeholders

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to various level of stakeholders

Portfolio that includes examples of leading strategic research with significant business outcomes
